How to Quickly Recover Delete Video Files on Your Drive or SD Card

“Oh, just now I deleted my sister’s wedding video by accident. Help me. She will kill me if she knows that. I just wanted to clear the unwanted photos/videos for free up more space and then a tragedy happened”.  My best friend asked me for help and in this video I will show you how I helped my friend to retrieve the wedding video step by step and how to avoid this situation in the future.

Due to its small size and other advantages, SD cards are widely used in portable devices such as cameras, tablet etc. No matter the professional photographer, a vlogger or a video editor like me can record all kinds of videos and save them on cameras. We love to share and preserve these vivid memories with videos. The data on cameras become more and more valuable. It is important and necessary to regularly save these videos to your pc or cloud drive because nobody knows when the above “tragedy” will happen to you.

But what if you deleted the videos by mistake or lost the files on SD card because of unexpected factors. Firstly, relax. Then stop taking more photos and recording more video to the SD card. Writing more data can reduce the chance of recovering deleted videos. There’s unfortunately no such thing like recycle bin to recover the deleted video/photos from the cameras. This is why we need to use a special data recovery tool to access lost video data.

A Reliable Tool – Data Recovery

Before recovering, you need to prepare the SD card reader and a reliable video recovery software. Comparing couple providers, finally I choose iBeesoft Data Recovery. Here are the reasons I select it:

1) The software has the friendly price with good recovery quality. It just costs $45.95 (once!). It also has a limited free version and could free recover up 2GB data.

2) Supports to recover a wide range of video formats such as AVI, MOV, MP4, M4V, 3GP, 3G2, WMV, MKV, ASF, FLV, SWF, MPG, RM/RMVB, MPEG etc.;

3) It also has a deep scan and raw recovery feature which increases the recovery chance.

How to get back the deleted video from SD Card or PC

  1. Take SD Card out of the camera, and put it in the SD card reader. Connect it to the computer, it will list on your computer.

  2. Launch the software, uncheck others file formats and only keep checking video. Click “start” button, then select SD card to scan. Quick scan only takes 5 mins, it pops up a window to suggest Deep Scan if the deleted videos are not found. Click “Deep Scan” on the Menu Bar. It takes 30 mins to deeply scan and return 431 results; I searched my video as type and finally, I found my lost .mp4 video.

  3. Preview and recover deleted videos. Find your targeted video in founded files, click right, it will show you “Recover” and “Preview”, directly recover. It seems it doesn’t support video preview. I tried to preview photo and document; it works. Now you have successfully recovered the lost videos.

Besides recovering deleted video from SD card, it also supports raw recovery or recovering from formatted SD card. It also applies to other memory card types, such as microSD, CompactFlash, XQD, CFast, and CFxpress cards.

How to avoid the data loss on SD Card

  1. Make a backup schedule to regularly backup your important photos and videos to others storage devices or cloud drives such as dropbox.

  2. Correctly use SD card, for example, before you remove it from the card reader, first press the Eject button.

  3. Don’t use the same card on multiple devices.

  4. Be careful when formatting and deleting videos and pictures.
